District drop out rate
By marys | February 26, 2009
I’m in my office, so naturally I googled “district drop out rates, North Clackamas School district”. The latest figures are from 2007 and were at 3.2 % compared to 3.8% in 2005. North Clackamas is a huge school district and no matter how I searched online I could not find specifics about those rates. I don’t know which kids are dropping from which schools, but from where I sit, I can see that we begin preparing them to drop out in middle school.

Drop out rates…..I think struggling to make ends meet. Parents worrying about where and how they are going to provide for their children can sometimes distract them from what is really important to them. Therefor, some students don’t receive the support they need from their parents/family. I remember never having college mentioned to me until after I graduated and I just smiled and said why would I want to go to college. So I think many students do not plan on attending college, therefore they don’t think a high school diploma is necessary for success, I only graduated not to upset my mom. My brothers dropped out because the job for construction in those days was paying really well and did not need a high school degree/ education. Truancy/excessive absences. once a student misses too many school days, it becomes almost impossible to catch up. Every student learns differently and has different needs, different learning styles, very important for teachers to tune into this. Or they might not do well and give up, out of frustration. Getting caught up in risky behavior, drugs, alcohol, school becomes less and less of a priority. This becomes extremely dangerous for students who do not have the support of anyone who truly values them or their education. My son at times feels like nobody cares or notices if he is in school, his need for acceptance and fitting in is very important. He has had to move yet to another new school, it has made him defensive/insecure and act in a bully manner and is sent to the office a lot and now if he gets in trouble one more time he is suspended. Why do we just suspend them I do not get it, don’t you think if he hears that , he is going to say yes I get to stay home with mom and get the attention I need. This is what happened to my brothers three of them, they did not fit in and stood out and were very out spoken, needed attention, we act out for attention we will do what ever we need to do to get the attention we need. OOps were expelled!
